Having such a successful model as your first one can is every bit as dangerous as it is good. However, Pro Co didn’t lose track of their goals, simply because they didn’t alter the core of the RAT platform, but have only built on top of it.
For those brave enough to harness its power, it provides a palette of distortion unequaled by any other pedal.
This is why it has been a main ingredient in the post punk/indie rock movement of the past twenty years.
We start by replacing the horrible factory chip with a little discovery of our own that no one else is using in their RAT modifications.
You can expect all the vibe and mojo of the old LMN308 but with less noise and a more well rounded response.

The RAT is one of the most classic and original designs in the history of effects pedals.Only twelve of these pedals (including one prototype), commonly referred to as the “Bud Box" RAT, were produced. Each pedal was built in a standard project box, hand painted, and hand drilled. This iteration was built in a custom designed, rectangular sheet-metal enclosure, with an L shaped removable top/back section giving access to the internals.Because of that, we have a whole line of RAT stomp boxes, each one differing from each other in terms of performance but never quality. The model we are going to look at today is the Turbo RAT, and it is a perfect example of effects pedal evolution done right. The top panel was labeled with Pro Co Sound "The RAT" and the three control knobs as Distortion, Tone and Volume.
